Meet The Pharmacists
Davie Waggett is a native of Wilmington, and was born and raised in Sunset Park. Davie has been married to his wife, Charlene, also a Wilmington native, since 1976. Their son, Blair, and daughter, Brooke, are both happily married and pursuing their own careers. Davie worked at Seashore Drug during high school and his first two years of college. Those four years of working with great employees and the wonderful customers of Wilmington are what made him decide to pursue an education and career in pharmacy. Davie graduated with a degree in pharmacy from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1978.
For many years now, Davie has been very active in his church, in his family adventures, his pharmacy profession, and in his community. In his church, Davie has been a youth counselor for 14 years. He has been chair of the health ministry, church council member, and has been involved in numerous other activities. He has taught Sunday School for Senior High School students for many years. He now serves as a group leader for 4th and 5th grade boys, and is a member of the parking team.
Over the course of his pharmacy career, Davie has been very involved with all facets of the profession. In addition to his responsibilities as a pharmacy owner and pharmacist, he has been president of the pharmacy associations in Roanoke Rapids, Henderson, and in Wilmington, and has held this position for over 15 years. He has been president of Medsource, on the Board of Healthnet, and has been the vice president and president of the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists, a state organization. He has been on the board of the NCPhA Pharmacy Endowment fund, and is presently serving as a board member for the N.C. Mutual Wholesale Drug Company in Durham. He is also on the board of directors for the Association of Community Pharmacists-Congressional Network, a national grassroots pharmacy lobbying group, and is the liaison between NCAP and ACP.
Davie and the staff at both of his pharmacy locations have been active for many years in mentoring and precepting students from schools of pharmacy in North Carolina. He has received the NCAP state award as Preceptor of the Year, and in 2008, Davie was awarded the national preceptor of the year award for his contributions to the education of upcoming pharmacists in the early part of their career. Since graduating in 1978 Davie has been involved in community pharmacy. He has served as the general manager of a small independent chain as well as the managing pharmacist for a long term care pharmacy. His passion in pharmacy, is for independent, community pharmacy where he has been for the majority of his career. Davie has been owner of Seashore Drug since 1991, and became owner of Winter Park Discount Drug in 1998.
In his community and social life, Davie has coached Little League baseball for 6 years, spoken at numerous community organizations, been president of three civic clubs, and worked on many charitable organizations. He has been on the board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for six years. Davie loves being around his family, enjoys fishing, snow skiing, boating, and flying (private pilot license). He loves watching baseball games, and being involved in his church.
“Pharmacy has been a natural extension for me to be involved in the lives of others, helping take care of their needs, being a part of their lives, and lending a hand whenever needed. It is fun, enjoyable, and relaxing to be able to meet face to face with our customers, discuss their needs and medical issues, offer solutions, and develop relationships at the same time. I have always thrived on getting to know people, and helping them meet their needs. Taking care of people is what we do best!”
A native North Carolinian, Brooke hails from Raleigh, but she has lived in Wilmington for nearly 16 years. She is a graduate of John T. Hoggard High School and UNC Wilmington.
